A product waitlist collects the same email address a generic one does, but it should read completely differently — because for a physical product, the list is inventory math. The three questions here are the three numbers a first production run actually needs: which variant, how many units, and which side of which ocean. Collect them now and launch day becomes arithmetic instead of guesswork.

Why these fields. The version question sorts demand across your variants before you commit a production ratio. If the deluxe pulls forty percent of the list, you make it in numbers; if it pulls four percent, it becomes a made-to-order upsell instead of a pallet of regret — and "undecided" is kept as an honest option because forcing a fake choice corrupts the ratio you're trying to read. The day-one quantity question converts heads into units: a hundred signups might mean a hundred units or four hundred, and the difference is your entire first-run budget. Its options are intent bands rather than a number box on purpose — nobody knows their exact future order, but everyone knows whether they're buying one, gifting a few, or stocking a shelf. "Depends entirely on the price" stays in because it flags your price-sensitive segment honestly. The shipping dropdown is logistics disguised as curiosity: customs paperwork, carrier tiers, and whether round one ships worldwide or US-first are decisions this single column settles.

What we left out. Money. No deposits, no preorders, no card fields — this form never touches payment. It measures intent; the sale happens in your shop when stock exists, and keeping the two separate means people answer the quantity question truthfully instead of defensively. Also street addresses (you need a region to plan freight, not a street to store for months) and spec-sheet preference quizzes that belong in product development interviews.

Who uses this. Hardware makers between prototype and first run, crowdfunding graduates building their next-batch list, small-batch food and craft sellers who sell out by design, and indie brands testing whether a second product deserves to exist.

Make it yours. Rename the versions to your actual SKUs and keep "undecided" in the list. The hidden utm_campaign field is your channel meter: give every creator collab and every ad its own tagged link, and the CSV export tells you which unboxing video actually filled the list. If the first batch is genuinely capped, set the form to close after that many responses and let the closed message start the list for batch two. A webhook can post each signup to your team channel as it happens — watching region ratios shift in real time is better motivation than any dashboard.

The payoff. When production day comes, export the CSV and pivot on version, region, and quantity band. That spreadsheet is the closest thing to presold demand a maker can have without taking a cent — build the batch the list already ordered.

No — and that's deliberate. The form collects intent, not payment, so answers stay honest. When stock exists, email the list and take orders wherever you actually sell.

How do I see demand per version and region?

The responses view filters by any answer, and the CSV export gives you version, quantity band, and region as columns — a pivot table away from a production plan.

Can I close the list once the first batch is spoken for?

Yes — set "close after N responses" in Settings. The form shuts at the cap and shows your closed message, which is a fine place to announce batch two.

How do I know which collab or ad filled the list?

Tag each placement with its own link, like ?utm_campaign=spring-video. The hidden field captures it silently and every signup arrives pre-labeled with its source.
